Day 3: Areu to Refugio de Baiau
 
Height gain: 4,455 feet
Height loss: 198 feet
 
We head for the border with Andorra today at the end of a steady climb. It’s not a long day, but takes us up to 8,250 feet and a night’s kip in a refugio.  A refugio is a mountain bunk hut for hikers. If beds area available, that’s fine – if not, we camp, but the views over the beautiful Estany de Baiau (lake) will be well worth it.  This one’s got a kitchen, but it’ll be basic.
